Chichester Shop Closure: A Farewell to Our Cherished Bookshop
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our beloved Chichester shop, effective as of the end of July. This decision has not been made lightly, and it comes as a result of various circumstances that have left us with no option but to close this chapter of our journey. We want to take this opportunity to reflect on the history of our Chichester shop, celebrate the unwavering support of our community, and express our gratitude for the many wonderful years we have shared together.
A Journey Through Time: The History of Our Chichester Shop
Our Chichester shop was acquired in 2004, nestled at 28 South Street, Chichester PO19 1EL, West Sussex. From the moment we opened our doors, the shop became a cherished landmark in the heart of Chichester. One of the proudest moments in our shop’s history was the unveiling of the blue plaque dedicated to the Poet and Cathedral Sexton. This plaque not only honored the rich literary history of our community but also became a symbol of our dedication to preserving and celebrating the written word.
The Heart of the Community: Your Support Over the Years
Over the past 20 years, our Chichester shop has been more than just a place to buy and sell books. It has been a gathering spot for book lovers, a place where stories were shared, and a hub of literary exploration. The support of our loyal customers has been the lifeblood of our shop. Your visits, your stories, and your passion for books have made our shop a vibrant and welcoming space.
Facing New Challenges: Our Current Circumstances
With the lease on our Chichester shop due to end in 2024 we decided to make life a little easier and concentrate our efforts on our shop in Arundel. This was never going to be an easy decision, especially as we have been in the City for more than 20 years, during which time we have been made to feel very much part of the book loving community.
Our priority has always been to provide a space where book lovers can discover new worlds, explore different ideas, and find joy in reading. However, the current situation has left us with no option but to make this difficult decision. We want to assure you that this closure does not diminish our commitment to serving our community and continuing our mission to promote literacy and the love of books.
Looking Ahead: Our Arundel Shop
While we bid farewell to our Chichester location, we invite you to continue your literary journey with us at our Arundel shop. Located at the bottom of the High Street in the historic town of Arundel, our shop there continues to thrive. We offer a wide range of books, from new releases to second-hand treasures and antiquarian gems. Our Arundel shop remains a haven for book lovers, and we look forward to welcoming you there.
In Gratitude
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported our Chichester shop over the years. Your loyalty, passion, and love for books have been the cornerstone of our success. We are immensely grateful for the memories we have created together and the community we have built.
This is not a goodbye, but a heartfelt thank you for being a part of our story. We hope to see you in Arundel, where our love for books and commitment to our community continue to flourish.
